How to weigh and check your gold
Weight: any kitchen or jewelry scale works. Grams are the standard; some older pieces were weighed in pennyweights (1 dwt = 1.555 g) — this estimator takes either.
Karat: look for the stamp — 10K, 14K, 18K — usually on the clasp, the inside of a ring band, or the earring post. No stamp? Text us a photo; we acid-test and XRF-check gold at the counter in front of you, free.

- No — broken gold is worth the same gold. A broken necklace, a single earring, a tangled chain: the gold content is identical to a perfect piece, and broken scrap is exactly what this estimator is for. Bring it in as it is.
- What if I don't know the karat or the weight?
- Check the clasp or the inside of the band — most pieces are stamped 10K, 14K or 18K. A kitchen scale gives you grams close enough for an estimate. And if you have neither, just text us a photo: we test and weigh everything at the counter in front of you, for free.
