LBC Pawn Cash 4 Gold 3% Loans* gets asked this at the counter every week, usually by someone holding one of each. Honest answer: it depends on the exact bags — size, leather, construction and hardware move the money more than the name on the flap does. This page lays out how the two really compare when you sell or pawn in Boston.
Holding one right now? Skip the theory — text photos of your Birkin or Kelly to 857-867-6468 and get a real range on your actual bag, or bring both in and let us price them side by side.

How the two bags are built
- Birkin — open tote top, two handles, sangles and turn-lock, born 1984
- Kelly — single handle, flap, shoulder strap, descended from the 1892 Sac à dépêches
- Birkin sizes — 25, 30, 35, 40
- Kelly sizes — 25, 28, 32, 35, plus Mini Kelly and Pochette
- Kelly constructions — rigid Sellier vs soft Retourne
- Shared leathers — Togo, Epsom, Box, Swift, Clémence and exotics
The Birkin is a carry-everything tote with a lock; the Kelly is a structured handbag with a strap. Same house, same saddle stitching, same quota-bag scarcity — different silhouettes, different buyers, and on any given day either one can win.
What actually decides the money
- Size — small is hot: Birkin 25 and Kelly 25/28 lead their lines
- Leather — Box and exotics sit above grained leathers; Togo is the liquid standard
- Construction — a Kelly Sellier usually out-prices the same bag in Retourne
- Hardware — gold on core colors is the strongest common combination
- Color — Noir, Gold, Etoupe and Craie out-run seasonal shades
- Completeness — straps, locks, clochettes and full sets add up
Rules of thumb: a Birkin 25 in Togo with gold hardware is close to a perfect resale specimen. A Kelly 28 Sellier in Box Calf is its equal. Drop either bag to a 35, a soft leather and a seasonal color, and the other one wins. The bags decide, not the badges.
Authenticated in store — no receipt needed
Whichever you bring, it is authenticated in store with professional authentication equipment — both models are counterfeited relentlessly, and both are verified the same way: stitching, blind stamp, hardware engraving and leather at the counter, in front of you. No receipt is required for either.
The more you bring in, the more you get. Own both? That is the strongest table we see — a Birkin and a Kelly priced together, with their wallets, Twillys and scarves, is a serious lot. Bundles earn more than the same bags sold separately. The more you bring in, the more you get.
Conditions we buy
- Either bag uncarried with seals — top of the market
- Lightly carried in a core specification
- Everyday examples with honest wear
- Vintage examples — Box Calf patina is a feature on both
- Bags with an issue — priced as-is, never dismissed
Bring a valid photo ID. Sellers and borrowers are 18+ with ID; every buy is recorded and reported exactly as Massachusetts law requires.
How it works
1. Text photos first. Photos of your Birkin or Kelly, front and back, plus any details, to 857-867-6468 — get a realistic range before you travel.
2. Bring it in. 1107 Commonwealth Ave, Boston — Mon–Fri 11–6:30, Sat 11–4:30. Bring a valid photo ID (18+). We authenticate and price the item at the counter, in front of you.
3. Get paid the same visit. Cash on the spot — or a pawn loan at 3% per month* if you would rather borrow against it and keep it yours.
Sell it, or borrow against it and keep it?
Can't choose? You don't have to sell either. Both bags are elite pawn collateral at 3% per month* for up to 4 months, renewable — borrow against one, keep both, and redeem when you're ready. Loans at this level are handled in our private VIP room.
Private VIP room: for loans and purchases over $2,000, ask about our private VIP room when you book — high-value pieces are handled there, not across a busy counter.
Why bring your Birkin or Kelly here?
Mail-in buyers quote one number online, then grade your piece down in a warehouse you have never seen — and hold your item hostage while you argue.
Marketplaces and consignment mean weeks of messages, flakes, fees and scam risk on a piece worth serious money.
At LBC Pawn your Birkin or Kelly is authenticated and priced at the counter in front of you, the offer is the offer, and you leave with cash the same visit — or a loan ticket and your ownership intact.
Skip the drive-first guesswork. Text photos of the item to 857-867-6468 and get a ballpark before you come. Prefer to talk? Call the same number during shop hours.

Questions we hear
- So which one pays more, flat answer?
- Spec for spec — same size class, leather and color — the Birkin usually edges the Kelly by a step, because tote demand is broader. But a Sellier Kelly in Box or an exotic beats a soft-leather Birkin in a seasonal color. Your exact bags decide it, which is why we price from photos for free.
- I have one of each. Should I sell both together?
- Bringing both gets you a stronger combined conversation — we price the pair as a lot, and bundles pay better than single pieces. You can always sell one and pawn the other.
- Does the Kelly's shoulder strap really matter to the price?
- Yes — a Kelly without its strap is an incomplete bag, and the offer reflects it. A Birkin's lock, keys and clochette play the same role on its side.
- Can I pawn one and sell the other?
- Absolutely — it is one of the most common splits we do. Cash for the one you're done with, a 3% loan on the one you're keeping.
