Famous Faces at LBC Pawn
★★★★★ Rated 4.9 stars from 1,028 Google reviews
For years, our counters — first in Davis Square, Somerville, now at 1107 Commonwealth Ave in Boston — have been a stop for famous faces and famous pieces. A $50 violin worth a quarter million, Bruins stars, TV legends, reality-TV royalty, and one very real Grammy. Here are a few of our favorite visits.
The $50 violin
Our favorite story ever told at this counter. A man brought in a violin, and the shop bought it for $50. Then the police called: the violin was stolen — and not just any violin. It was dated to the 1750s and valued at roughly $200,000 to $250,000. The shop gave it back to its rightful owner. Hear it told in the shop, in this video from our Facebook page:
Video: LBC Boutique & Loan Facebook page, August 1, 2018 — captioned "Famous shop!" The same video nods to the Peter Tosh Grammy and the championship rings that passed through the shop.
Brad Marchand has come through too
Brad Marchand — Boston Bruins star, now with the Florida Panthers — has come through our shop as well. Hockey royalty at a Boston pawn counter: exactly our kind of day.
Emmanuel Lewis at the counter
Emmanuel Lewis — Webster himself — came into our Davis Square shop and posed at the counter. A TV icon from everybody's childhood, in a Boston pawn shop. He could not have been nicer.
Michael with Rick Harrison of Pawn Stars
Our owner Michael has stood at the most famous pawn counter in the world — with Rick Harrison at the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop in Las Vegas, home of Pawn Stars. That photo is the first thing on our homepage — pawn people know pawn people.
And one very famous Grammy
In 2016, a relative of reggae legend Peter Tosh pawned his guitar and his Grammy Award with us — and Boston Magazine, the Somerville Times and TMZ all told the story. The display is gone from the case today, but it is still our favorite piece of shop history. Read the full Tosh story.
